The Philosophy Behind Interior Couturier’s Design Approach

Why do I do what I do? Simply put, I’m passionate about interior design and helping clients create homes that truly support their lifestyle. With years of experience in Australia, the UK, and now Singapore, I bring a unique, international flair to every project. I focus on understanding your needs and desires to design a home that works for you, making the process enjoyable and stress-free. From concept to completion, I’m dedicated to delivering a space that reflects your style and enhances your life.

Having spent many years working in the design industry across Australia and the UK, I’ve gained invaluable insights that have shaped my approach. This international experience has influenced my work, giving it a sophisticated, global perspective that I now bring to Singapore. I understand that the design process can be daunting—it's a big decision, and trusting someone with your home can feel overwhelming. That’s why I place my clients at the heart of everything I do, ensuring that your vision is brought to life with care and attention.

When we begin your project, I take the time to listen closely to your needs and desires. I’m not just focusing on aesthetics, but on understanding your pain points—what’s not working for you in your current space and how we can improve it. Using this valuable information, I create a tailored action plan that turns your ideas into reality. I thrive on the challenge of refining concepts, sourcing quality materials, and selecting the perfect pieces to complete your vision. And when it comes time to install, the excitement is palpable—I get great joy from seeing everything come together into a finished space. My ultimate goal is for you to be delighted with your home and to feel that it truly reflects who you are and how you want to live.

Design & Wellness

Research has shown that home design, from the use of light, colour, texture, and function impacts our mental and emotional wellness. There have been many studies conducted in this area. In one study, the researchers found that specific rooms elicit very real emotions. They found an entry should be inviting, a dining room should be intimate and promote conversation, a wardrobe should be organised, and so on. As an interior designer, this is conventional wisdom, and something I am considering as I design your space.

Making an Impact

I am committed to the maxims “less is more” and buy “quality over quantity”. I want to use materials in your interior design that are sustainable and ethical. Using beautiful natural materials that will develop patina and richness over time. While studying design in the early 2000s, my thesis was about sustainable and environmentally friendly furniture design. Sustainability wasn’t as hot a topic as it is now. These days, we hear about sustainability and climate change daily! Over the past 20 years, the awareness of our impact on the planet has dramatically increased. There are many ways we can achieve more sustainability in our homes:

  • buying quality furniture and products that you love. Items you value, and want to make part of your home long term.

  • choosing natural materials (for example, timber from certified managed forests)

  • using products made from recycled/reclaimed materials

  • buying beautiful vintage or antique pieces

  • sourcing locally produced products and furniture

  • considering what will happen when you no longer want that item, whether it be a chair/table/lamp. Can it be used in another way in your home? Can it be sold/given away? Can it be recycled?

On a Mission

My goal is to increase your family’s happiness, and security by creating a home that reflects you. A home that responds to your individual needs. I want to help you engage with your home, and the appreciate the things you surround yourself with. After all, your home is where a large portion of your life happens.
